WordPress.com is a hosting platform masquerading as a SaaS website builder built on WordPress. It’s current audience is primarily non technical which presents some interesting challenges around how to help them successfully launch a site and work through points of friction that may be associated with WordPress the open source project and not the hosting platform.

I spent time designing onboarding and theme experiences that aimed to ease customers into the full blown editing experience. That included a mini page builder that focused on sections rather than more granular “blocks”. The library behind this builder also powers Big Sky, the AI website builder.
