Generative AI is reaching all creative mediums, including web design. Big Sky is WordPress.com’s attempt at utilising AI as a way to simplify the web building experience. This is a strategically important play for WordPress.com as their primary audience are generally non technically who struggle with complex editing environments. Big Sky is a way for us to bring a customer 80% of the way towards launching their site, bypassing all that complexity.

I build out an early proof of concept which helped set the tone for the project and what final results may look like. Big Sky makes use of a large library of colours, fonts and website sections. The assistant chooses how a page should be structured, chooses right styles and sections for the job, then updates content. Follow up prompts can be used to modify the page or content.
